Transportation Package – Action Required
URGE YOUR STATE SENATOR TO SUPPORT THE BIPARTISAN TRANSPORTATION REVENUE & REFORM PACKAGE
The Washington Senate is expected to begin debate later this week on a bipartisan transportation package that will make great strides toward taking better care of the state’s roads and bridges, improving key corridors, providing options for transit, and leveraging reforms to ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely.
The $17 billion in projects funded by this package will provide thousands of well-paying jobs across the state both during the design and construction of the projects, but also far into the future as the economic growth generated by these investments plays out.
The revenue package includes $8 billion in new construction spending–paid for with an 11.7 cent gas tax implemented in stages over three years, fee increases, sales tax and a percentage of the Environment Legacy Stewardship Account. There are six “mega†projects and 58 regional projects throughout the state on the proposed project list. Funding was provided to see the projects through completion. The package consists of 11 bills: eight reform bills, a bond bill, a revenue bill and a spending bill.
The Senate is expected to vote on this package soon. Please call or email your senator today to urge support for this important transportation package.
SUGGESTED EMAIL:
Dear Senator,
Please support the transportation funding bills. As an engineering design professional, I am well-situated to understand the limitations and needs of the state’s transportation system and to underscore how important these investments are to the flow of goods and our quality of life–from the movement of freight and goods, to the reduction of traffic congestion, to the elimination of fish passage barriers, to the investment in multi-modal transit, to the new moneys for local roads. Washington State needs this investment.
I additionally ask that you support the reform bills, which are common-sense approaches that will stretch taxpayers’ dollars, streamline permitting processes, improve efficiency, and increase the effectiveness of WSDOT’s project delivery. The reform bills help maintain good stewardship of these needed investments.
Again, I strongly encourage you and all other Senators to keep the package moving and vote yes to all of its various components!
Three Transportation Funding Bills:
SB 5987 Concerning transportation revenue.
SB 5988 Concerning additive transportation funding and appropriations.
SB 5989 Authorizing bonds for transportation funding.
Eight Transportation Reform Bills:
SB 5990 Transferring certain state sales and use taxes collected on transportation projects to the connecting Washington account.
SB 5991 Concerning activities at the department of transportation funded by the environmental legacy stewardship account.
SB 5992 Modifying certain requirements for ferry vessel construction.
SB 5993 Concerning public works contracts and projects.
SB 5994 Concerning permits for state transportation corridor projects.
SB 5995 Modifying the transportation system policy goal of mobility.
SB 5996 Concerning Washington state department of transportation projects.
SB 5997 Concerning transportation project delivery.
