On September 8th to 10th members of ACEC Washington and ACEC Oregon met at the Marcus Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla, WA, with Brad Hermanson from Hermanson Consulting presenting the topic of decision making.
Brad Hermandson delivered a day-long presentation on “Building a Better Brain: Improving Your Decision Making”. The workshop’s learning objectives included becoming more aware of the way the brain functions when making decisions in order to improve decision-making. The second part of the presentation dealt with group decision making and demonstrated how to dissect complex decision problems and apply appropriate decision approaches to the problems.
There were also client presentations from the Ports of Walla Walla and Portland as well s the US Army Corps of Engineers, both the Portland and Walla Walla Districts.
Friday’s winemaker’s dinner was a delicious affair, with Anna Schafer, the winemaker at aMaurice Cellars, describing the wine pairing with the dinner consisting of Wild King Salmon and New York Steak. Dinner guests enjoyed a 2010 Syrah, a 2015 Chardonnay, a 2012 Malbec, and a 2012 Bordeaux-style Blend. There was an impromptu PAC donation rivalry between Oregon and Washington with almost $10K being pledged that evening.
Saturday morning included roundtable discussions with Jen Sheehan (BST Global), David James (ClarkNuber), Geoff Bollert and Robyn Miller (Hall & Company), Carson Cooper and Andrew Gable (Lane Powell), Mary Green (PNCE Health & Welfare Trust), Grant McDonald (TRUEbenefits), Lydia Zabrycki (ACEC Retirement Trust), and Doug Reichard (Newforma). ACEC members took advantage of the sunny afternoon to participate in extra-curricular activities of golf and a wine tasting tour.
Over $3600 was raised for ACEC PAC in an effort to win the Bucket of Booze. And, for the second year in a row, Karen Doherty took it home. Congratulations Karen!
